"Let the Deathbird fly." |
The Sparrow is one of the 50 original cars from Carmageddon: TDR 2000. It first appears in Hollowood, being one of the first vehicles the player encounters in the game.
Design
The car is designed to roughly look like a sparrow with its front blade and headlights. The car is colored green and has a flame livery.
Performance
Sparrow is an all-round car, and is quite cheap. When fully upgraded, its Top Speed leaves much to be desired at an average of 230MPH. It is difficult for it to catch up in long straights[1].
Driver
The driver, named "Maya De'Ath" in the files, is difficult to notice due to the tinted glass from the car, but for some reason she's fully modeled. She has medium-length, blonde hair, and wears orange-tinted glasses. She wears a corset and a miniskirt or shorts, with garter suspenders and leather boots.
Trivia
- Many of Sparrow's files are named "Red_Sparrow". As seen in the tech demo screenshots from February 1999, the car used to be colored red. Unlike the final version, the Red Sparrow did not have a blade on its front end, instead having a painted mouth. It also had streams of fire painted above droopy headlights, and lacked the green flame livery.
- A bird of death appears in the mythology of the Maya people of Central and South America.
- "De'ath" clearly means "Death", but it is a genuine last name.
- The name is homonymous, if you squint a bit, of "my death."
- Mark Day was one of the artists who worked on Sparrow[2].
- Inside the files for Sparrow there is an info .txt file for an earlier iteration of the vehicle:
- NAME "Sparrow"
