About the early version bit: the ice station is based on a multiplayer level that didn't make it to the final C1 release (like many other levels). The level design is very similar to the Sumo arena. Stainless completed that level for the Splat Pack. It is an easy spot as the gameplay in that level is very different from other tracks (I mean it's build differently).
