Max Damage is the most famous racer in the Carmageddon series. He is one of two drivers that the player can choose from at the start of many of the games (the other being Die Anna), as well as being only driver to appear in every Carmageddon game to date.

The Red Eagle is one of two cars that the player can select to drive at the start of the game. When the game is completed, Eagles in various different colours are unlocked.
Design
The prat cam footage of Max Damage in Carmageddon and the Splat Pack is played by Tony Taylor, a friend of the guys at Stainless.
The Red Eagle appears as an aggressive Grand Touring styled sports coupe with with its centerpiece, an arched metal blade spanning the length from the hood to the trunk. The design of the Red Eagle uses common sports car styling cues such as large rear air intakes, low profile tires, and large wheels. Combined with a heavier set, hunchbacked rear end, large rear bumper, as well as the shark mouthed front end, the Red Eagle assumes a very aggressive, predatory appearance. The vehicle's appearance isn't based on any particular car, as confirmed by its designer Neil 'Nobby' Barnden [1], however the arched blade may have been inspired by the Monster, a vehicle driven by the main character 'Frankenstein' in the 1975 film Death Race 2000.

Design
In contrast to its first appearance in Carmageddon the Eagle II loses its signature bladed arch in favor of two smaller roof-mounted mounted blades. The rounded shapes are replaced by heavier, more angular lines. This new design direction as well as several features such as the riveted bodypanels, and rear light protection all suggest that the Eagle II is heavily armored against impacts, perhaps more so than its predecessor.
While not based on any one car the Eagle II resembles the Batmobile, particularly the shape featured in the first Batman Film

Trivia
- Earlier during development of the first game, Max was named Frankie. This explains the multiple FRANK references in the code and filenames.
- In the original game, Max is portrayed on the in-game 'Prat cam' by a man (Tony) wearing a red crash helmet, despite appearing in his regular 'burnt red' form on the box. However, the red on the box and loading screen appeared to be created by the lighting, which is made clearer in Reincarnation images.
- In the cutscenes of the original game, a person wearing a red racing suit (with the Stainless logo visible) and a full-face helmet is portrayed driving the Red Eagle.
- The Eagle and the Hawk are the only cars to get colour variants, in Carmageddon and the Splat Pack. Max gets extra colours in Carmageddon II as well.
- Like Twisted Metal's Sweet Tooth, Max Damage and The Red Eagle are considered the 'mascots' for the Carmageddon series. Max appears in every game, and on all the box art; in the games where drivers aren't present (such as Carmageddon: TDR 2000) The Red Eagle is in place. The Red Eagle is absent from the mobile port of Carmageddon, but Max is there and a car named Hellfire is present which looks very similar to the Eagle.
- Max can appear as an enemy in Carmageddon 64 and Carmageddon (Mobile) when the player chooses to play as another vehicle/driver.
- In TDR 2000, Max has a tattoo on his forearm that says Quiet Riot.
- A very early version of the Eagle R existed before the vehicle received a complete redesign. See Unused content.

Other Media
Max Damage also appears in a Tozzer.com online comic that was released at the same time as Carmageddon: TDR 2000. It shows him getting hit by an atomic blast (causing his red complexion), as well as initially driving a non-Eagle car (which resembles to OK Stimpson's Fraud Broko).
