Description | |
"Herman likes to have a good view of the road ahead, and hates getting caught in a traffic jam. Lucky for him he drives the Masher!" |
Monster Masher is a vehicle from the Carmageddon series, making its only appearance in Splat Pack. It appears from the beginning of career and becomes stealworthy at rank 55.
Design
This vehicle is based on a Bigfoot 5, and is a late 1980s Ford F-Series pickup with huge tires.
Performance
Monster Masher is huge and heavy vehicle, having superior weight even compared to The Plow. However its sheer size is also its greatest weakness. Due to big tires and relatively short wheelbase it is tricky to drive. It tends to pull wheelies while accelerating and can easily flip going on uneven terrain.
Driver
Herman Monster is a man with a bald head, jug ears and makeup that reminds the makeup of Gene Simmons and Ace Freshley of the Kiss.
Trivia
- Majority Splat Pack vehicles were made by interns. Monster Masher might be exception, as quality of model is much better than average.
- Similar to the Suppressor, Herman's vehicle isn't available for network play since it, again, alters balance in gameplay.
- Herman Munster was the lead character in 1960s sitcom The Munsters, while the Monster Mash was a 1962 novelty song. Both involved vampires, Frankenstein's monster and the like.
- The Masher's tyres are made by Firestarter. Firestone is manufacturer of Bigfoot 5's overland train tires.
- If Masher is scaled to real world scale, diameter of it's tires are little shy of nine feet. Bigfoot 5 actually has 10 ft. tires, making ones on the Masher little bit too small.
- Odd expection to Carmageddon formula, Monster Masher in some ways is less capable than its real life counterpart. Bigfoot 5 has four wheel drive and four wheel steering. Masher has only rear wheel drive and steerable front axle. These game engine limitations are part of reason for Masher's subpar handling.
- In the PlayStation version, there is similar vehicle driven by Junior.
- Cockpit images of Monster Masher are modified from ones of the Caddy Fat Cat.
- Monster Masher replaces Fraud Broko.
