The Project X returned in Reincarnation as a large, tracked, tank like-vehicle. Originally stated to appear with the initial release of Carmageddon: Reincarnation, the vehicle ended up being withheld until Carmageddon: Max Damage due to the tracked vehicle technology not being ready at the time.

After a brief skirmish with Ivan the Bastard the original Project X can be seen completely destroyed in the Official Carmageddon Comic episode The Bear and The Shark when Ivan crushes the car using The Bear. After some gridnding, welding, sanding, and cookies, the new and improved Project X stands ready in Hammerheads workshop.

Design

While still retaining its "Hammerhead Shark" shape, the vehicles design features tracks instead of wheels with an additional rear track replacing the large metal roller. The new design appears to be more sleek and modern, lacking the angular, armored look of its original counterpart . In contrast to the original, the vehicles cockpit is now much closer to the front as well as featuring glass instead of armored metal sheets.

• Hammerhead's profile picture in the Splat Pack is animated (but unused), and it reveals that he has one Cycloptic eye under his visor. (He's a Cyclops)
  • The tie-in comic for Reincarnation retcons this, showing he has two eyes.
• Project X is the only three-wheeled vehicle in Carmageddon. The rear wheel is one wide roller, covered in studs/spikes.
• A Hammerhead Shark has both eyes on finlike protrusions on either side of its head. It is reportedly vicious, although only 1/3 of hammerhead shark species are considered harmful to humans.
