Description | |
"Crazed chem. worker Firestorm stole a company tanker and took to racing. The rig is big and the driver is brutal." |
Tanka is one of the 30 original vehicles from Carmageddon, driven by Firestorm. It first appears among the second batch of opponents and is not stealworthy.
Design
Tanka is a futuristic cab missing its rear trailer. Render of early version with lost high resolution textures shows that it had text HAUL-M at side panel, however in final version text is unreadable.
Performance
While Tanka has fairly good stats, it's handling is possibly worst in the series.
Driver
Firestorm wears a hazmat suit with a flame logo on it.
Trivia
- Tanka is replaced by Ramraider in the Splat Pack expansion.
- The description says "the rig is big", but in-game it's rather small. An early concept render shows the vehicle with a large tanker trailer attached to the cab (hence the name Tanka). The hinge for the rear trailer of the Tanka couldn't be executed correctly with the limitations of the physics engine at the time and so the trailer was left out.
- A truck resembling the Tanka appears in the Main Menu background.
- On the starting grid, Tanka's race number is shown to be 99. However, this number is not placed anywhere in the vehicle itself. This is also the case for the Volkswerker, and the Blood Mobile.
- It's possible that the number was located on its trailer, but that can't be said for certain.
- Tanka is one of the three vehicles with the 99 race number. The others are: Abba Cab, and Femme Fatal.
- Tanka has an animated car selection screen in Splat Pack's files. However, as the vehicle is not present in the game, this animation goes unused. In the animation, Firestorm looks at the "CHEAT!" banner, and it to changes to "HEAT!".
- Tanka's car selection image is a mirrored and cropped version of the full render with the tanker.
- Like much of early Carmageddon 1-content, Tanka seems to be 2000 AD inspired. This is even more apparent with early version, Armadillo; which seems to be directly based of Roadliners Inc. -truck appearing in Judge Dredd.
- Firestorm's eyes were based on those from the actor Christopher Lloyd, specifically his character of Doc Brown from the Back to the Future movies[1].

In the Funsize version of Carmageddon, the Tanka is once again not stealworthy.
Design
This design is a smoother version of the one from the original game. However in conversion it has lost it's window textures. HAUL-M text is also replaced with FIRE
Performance
In this version, the vehicle handles like it has Jelly Suspension built-in which the Fraud Broko does in the original game. Even with permanent power down, it's performance is way better than original's.
