Description
"R.I.P. Rithe in pain."

Drag-Ghoul is one of the 50 original cars from Carmageddon: TDR 2000. It first appears in Hollowood, being one of the first vehicles the player encounters in the game.

Design

The Drag-Ghoul is based on the "DRAG-U-LA", the car in The Munsters TV show which Granpa drove[1]. It is pretty faitful version, however for some reason it has 90's aluminium wheels at the rear, making crack into it's period correctness.

Performance

Driver

The driver, named "Bel LaGhostly" in the files, is a cyclops wearing a black sleeveless shirt with the text "who farted?" on it, and blue jeans.

Trivia

  • Drag-Ghoul's file name is "Drag_u_lar". That is also the car's name in the demo.
  • The expression "R.I.P." normally stands for "rest in peace" or, in Latin, "requiescat in pace," and is a common inscription on tombstones.
  • The driver's name is most likely referring to the vampire depicted in the vehicle's textures, as the real-life reference to it (Béla Lugosi) was most famous for portraying Dracula, both on stage and in the 1931 film of the same name. The vampire was the early driver of the Drag-Ghoul, as seen in the demo, and early images of TDR.
  • Aside from the different driver, the vehicle's earliest iteration also lacked the cross the driver rests on.
  • Drag-Ghoul has the same wheel textures as Throb Rod.
  • Inside the files for Drag-Ghoul there is an info .txt file for an earlier iteration of the vehicle, with several elements leftover from the Spectre:
    • NAME "Drag-Gool-Arrr!"
    • DESCRIPTION "Top Speed: 260mph
    • Kerb weight: 1300Kgs
    • 0-60mph: 3.4 seconds
    • a space girls are nice too"
    • DESCRIPTOR "Drag_u_lardescriptor.txt"
    • DRIVER_NAME "Crime Fight"
    • DRIVER_SHORT_NAME "Sp Host"
    • STRENGTH 5
    • COST 50 // in thousands!
    • TYPE 2 // 0 = eagle, 1 = normal, 2 = novelty
    • //ARMOUR_MAP "eagle_armoured"

Driver Fang Stroker
Race number no number

Drag-Ghoul appears in the Tozzer Carmageddon comic, under the name "Dragula", and driven by a vampire named Fang Stroker.

Driver

Fang Stroker appears in a race against the Eagle MK4, Bumbly Bee, and the Fortress, but unfortunately plough into a wall with the other competitors. Max Damage, who couldn't start his car, is spared this fate. The driver has a more significant role later on, but his car is not seen again.

Trivia

  • Fang Stroker's design is most likely taken from the early driver from the game.

Dragular is one of the 20 vehicles in the cancelled Game Boy Color port of Carmageddon: TDR 2000. It appears as a normal opponent on Races 1 and 2 of Docks, and Race 1 of Military.

Design

The sprite is based on the original model and there are no noticeable differences.

Performance

The Dragular has terrible handling, lackluster armor, and barely any means of wasting opponents. It is only good if you want a head start on enemy vehicles, and is short on cash.
