Carmageddon: Crude Awakening is an unreleased Carmageddon game by Eidos/Pseudo Interactive that was in development in 2007~2008 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. According to an old article from Gamespot, Eidos had a change in upper management, resulting in the resignation of CEO Jane Cavanagh and drastic changes being announced later, including layoffs of 200 workers, as well as the cancellation of more than a dozen games, including Crude Awakening.[1]
History
In 2024, eight Xbox 360 builds of the game were leaked online.[2] The first one is from 28/01/2008.[3] The build mostly has test maps, but it also has enemy, traffic, and pedestrian AI. One of test maps is that of a boss fight against a giant machine and a Killdozer, both of which can also be seen in the released concept art.
The second build is from 06/02/2008.[4] It features a city map (which can also be seen in released screenshots) with an asthetic similar to that of the Fallout series, being the vision of the future from the 50s. The music from both builds match that kind of aesthetic, examples being the songs "I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper" by Erika Eigen, and "Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)" by Doris Day. The second build lacks any AI that was present in the one from January.
The third build is much older, being from 28/06/2007.[5] It got leaked a day later, and its visuals lacked any sort of retro futuristic aesthetic from the 2008 builds, being heavily based off of Full Auto 2, another car combat game by the same developers.
The fourth and fifth builds which leaked the same day, are from 11/02/2008,[6] [7] a few days after the second build. It featured the same futuristic map, but are extremely broken.
The final three builds are all older builds from 2007, being from 09/05/2007,[8] 26/06/2007,[9] and 04/07/2007.[10]
