Please excuse its informal appearance, as it will be completed briefly.

This page includes all of the unused content from Carmageddon: TDR 2000.

Driver names & description

As with earlier games, each vehicle was given some info to display on the Choose car screen, such as vital statistics (top speed, kerb weight, 0-60 speed), a name for the vehicle, the driver's name, and a brief description. For unknown reasons, the driver names and descriptions (as well as "short names") were removed from the game late in development. Therefore, most people know the TDR2000 cars by their vehicle names. But these details are still in the game files.

When selecting The Fortress, the words "She's FORT KNOX" can be seen in the last line of the info-box. Further inspection revealed that all the aforementioned information is in the Car_Strings_UK.txt file, inside the UK Strings directory, but as the amount of possible letters that can be shown on the info box are limited, the description is usually not seen in-game. Removing some text from the stats will make the descriptions appear.

Unused powerups

The following powerups can be activated with cheats, but cannot be collected normally. Some don't work at all, others cause some weird effects, and others work as intended.

Unused vehicles

Several vehicles were cut from TDR 2000. Some were mentioned in various sources to be planned for the game, but no image reference exists of them; Others are seen in promotional screenshots, or have evidence in the game's files.

Old car list

Below is an early car list released by SCi on the 28th of March, 2000. While the original post seems to be lost, it was re-posted on fan sites such as Driven To Destruction[1] and "carmageddon.web.infoseek.co.jp". It contains some different names, the majority being from earlier versions of existing cars, while a few others are cut vehicles:

The final cars that are missing from this list are: Big Wig, The Chef, Da Panzer, HFB Terra, Knave, Limey, Master Mine, New Suppressor, Thummper, White Trash, and Wraith. Adding all of these to the list would bring the total of vehicles to 53.

Of the 42 listed, three of them are confirmed to be unused: Monster Truck, Frank, and EXA. Detailed information on them is below.

Monster Truck

Main article: The Yeti#Carmageddon: TDR 2000
The red Monster Truck. Posted on the official Carmageddon site (18/02/2000).

The Monster Truck was a huge vehicle that was created by using the Tow Meister model, but without the decals and race number. Two similar looking models of this truck existed at the same time, as the old car list has the name "Monster Truck" separate from "Mighty Muff", the latter being the early version of Tres Hombres as revealed in an interview.

The blue Monster Truck. From polish Play magazine, May 2000 issue.

The truck from the pictures posted around February 2000 is colored red, while the other truck is blue and has a tanker barrel strapped to its bed. It's currently unknown which one is the Monster Truck, and which one is Mighty Muff.

The Yeti.

The blue monster truck also made an appearance in the cancelled Game Boy Color version of TDR. It seems that a screenshot of the blue monster truck from TDR was traced in order to create the menu art of it. This version lacks the tanker, and is known as The Yeti.

Frank

Frank and the Eagle MK4 (28/03/2000)[2].

Three known images of Frank exists, but it is essentially Frankenstein's Monster from the movie Death Race 2000. It was cut because SCi lost the license to the movie, which in turn also made them have to stop using "The Death Race 2000" for the game's title.

Side view of Frank. From the Micromania Tercera Epoca (Spanish) magazine, May 2000 issue[3].

In an interview with one of the game's 3D artists (David Biggs), when asked if the car would ever see the light of day again, he responded that the car was originally constructed early on in the games development and it would require a large amount of work for it to operate with the current car structure.

Frank with the Cop Car. From the PC Gameplay magazine, June 2000 issue.

EXA

EXA. From the Micromania Tercera Epoca (Spanish) magazine, May 2000 issue.

Currently, only one image of EXA is known to exist. From the small picture, the car appears to be a beat-up Nissan EXA with spikes attached to its hood (two long ones on the sides, and three small dinosaur-like spikes on the center). It's unknown why it was removed.

Work in progress cars

Two work in progress images from 25/10/1999 show two vehicles that were not used in the final game. These likely weren't in the game for long judging by their absence from the list above.

Cop Van

Main article: CopVan#Carmageddon: TDR 2000
Cop Van in the work in progress image (25/10/1999).

Cop Van was a police vehicle in the style of the Cop Car from the game. It is unknown if it would've served the role of a normal cop car, or if it was going to be a mission vehicle. Parts of the model resemble that of the Fortress, meaning it is possible that it was repurposed to make that truck.

CopVan.

Another vehicle named "CopVan" exists in the Game Boy Color version, however this van is quite different from the one in the image. Just like the Yeti, it's likely that the menu art was traced from a screenshot of the TDR version.

Bugatti

Bugatti in the work in progress image (25/10/1999).

Bugatti was an old-school car sporting the number 5. Not much can be said about it, other than it was scrapped.

Poll winners

Mid-1999, SCi made a poll where fans could vote for their favorite Carmageddon and Carmageddon II cars. The 5 winners from each game were stated to make an appearance in TDR 2000. However, some of these vehicles, particularly from C2, did not appear in the final game. The winners were as follows:

C1: Electric Blue, Tow Meister, Vlad MK. 1, Suppressor, and King Merc.
C2: Eagle 3, Twister MK.2, Piranha, Semi MK.2, and the Harvester[4].

Of these, Vlad MK. 1, Eagle 3, Twister MK.2, Piranha, Semi MK.2, and the Harvester were not added to the game.

"The Harvester" text in Soul Harvester's texture.

Evidence of the Harvester being considered, or at least being re-imagined as the Soul Harvester exists hidden in its texture, with it having a text behind its cabin that reads "The Harvester".

Vlad MK. 1 remains in the Wheel's texture.

Vlad MK. 1 (or the Annihilator), on the other hand, is known to have been created as its texture was reused for the Wheel. It was going to be a complete remake of the C1 car, the only difference being the circular headlights. For whatever reason this version of Vlad was cut, and the developers went for a new design similar to its later appearances instead. The funny car Stormbringer is similar to the first Vlad design, although the UV Mapping is completely different.

Twister was mentioned in an article by Gamespot from 10/02/2000[5], but other than that, there isn't any other information about it, or the rest of the cars from C2.

Older car list

Before any car list with proper names was revealed, several other cars were mentioned in various places, such as magazines, the article from Gamespot above, and Driven To Destruction. Some of the vehicles made it to the final game, but most of them were cut. A few have been seen in images, like the Monster Truck, while others were only ever described. The older list of cars and their descriptions are as follows:

Older car list
Name Has image/is in final game Description
Eagle Mk IV Final This updated version of the Eagle will carry over characteristic styling cues from its predecessor. Performance wise, it will continue to be the consummate.
Hunvee Final (as Thummper) A very large all-rounder, with good acceleration, defence and offence. The Hunvee will go practically anywhere, is tough and can do a lot of damage to other cars. Its large tyres and four wheel drive gives it an excellent level of traction. However, because of its size the Hunvee is also quite slow.
Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) Concept art Similar to the Hunvee, the APC is heavy and durable. It is a very slow vehicle, but can do a lot of damage once it picks up speed.
Le Mans Murdercedes N/A A tremendously fast racing car that has the best handling dynamics of any in the game. Because of its lightweight construction, however, the Murdercedes is vulnerable in a collision. It's race-tuned suspension makes it practically useless off-road.
Le Mans Murdercedes N/A A tremendously fast racing car that has the best handling dynamics of any in the game. Because of its lightweight construction, however, the Murdercedes is vulnerable in a collision. It's race-tuned suspension makes it practically useless off-road.
Monster Truck Images An extremely large and heavy machine that can climb over and crush most things in its path. The inevitable down-side is a lack of acceleration, an enormous turning circle, and difficult handling at higher speeds.
A vehicle in the style of a Mini Minor GTi Expansion (as Pogo) This is a very small, light and zippy car that has practically no offensive or defensive abilities. It is, however, extremely nimble: accelerating quickly, capable of high speeds, and handling very well.
A vehicle in the style of a Lamborghini Final (as the Chef) Very fast and has great handling, but not very strong or durable car. The Lamborghini can neither cause or sustain much damage, and is better off for racing around maps than trashing opponents.
A vehicle in the style of a Jeep N/A A mid-sized 4WD with large tyres and great off-road ability. Tough construction makes its defence better than its offence, while handling and acceleration are both average. Has a pink paintjob. (All 4WDs in the level will actually be programmed to drive as such).
Armour Guard Van Image? (possibly Cop Van) Heavy armour plating makes this a very tough vehicle with considerable offensive and (if it builds up enough speed) defensive abilities. However, it's slow to get going, has a relatively low top speed and doesn't corner particularly well.
Steam Roller N/A Snail paced performance and an enormous turning circle, but practically indestructible and able to crush almost anything.
Ice-cream Van N/A A fairly large and heavy vehicle, the Ice-cream van is both strong and durable. It is also quite fast, but its sheer size translates into poor handling. The van plays a jingle as it drives along, the tempo of which is linked to the van's speed.
A vehicle in the style of a Bat Mobile N/A A replica of the Bat Mobile from the original Batman series, complete with a rear turbine (the flames from which can set pedestrians alight). It is fast and handles well, and its pointed front end enables it to skewer pedestrians.
Mad Max Final (as SXE Black Hatch) From the movie of the same name, this is a tough, rugged, 'Desert Dueller' type vehicle. Large tyres give it a good off-road ability, while handling and performance are both about average. Most importantly, Mad Max's front bull bar and overall rugged construction make it a very strong, durable vehicle.
Moon Buggy N/A Holds the road better than any other car, and is able to scale almost sheer surfaces. The Moon Buggy has a unique steering system, with its wheels supplemented by two thrusters mounted on either side. Steering left, for instance, points the wheels left and fires the right thruster to assist the Buggy to turn. This makes the vehicle extremely fast around corners. While it has a tough, durable construction, the Moon Buggy is not able to do a lot of damage to other vehicles.
Corpse Carrier N/A A very long, heavy, 70's inspired hurse, equipped with a supercharged engine that also makes it very fast. Offensive and defensive capabilities are both very good, but cornering - even at moderate speeds - is an undertaking (ha, ha). In short, the hearse is a lot faster than its handling says it should be.
Double Decker Bus N/A Tall, heavy and slow, the bus' only advantage is its sheer size. Offence and defence are both very good, if it ever gets up enough speed to ram anything. The bus' major problem is a propensity to overturn when cornered too hard at higher speeds.
Winged Lady N/A A very heavy and strong vehicle, the Rolls Royce is powered by a V12 engine that also makes it fast. In keeping with the 'winged lady' motif, the Rolls Royce will feature fibreglass wings attached to its front doors. These are perfect for clothes-lining pedestrians or taking out other cars, but make narrow manoeuvres impossible.
K.I.T.T Final (as Knave) A black Pontiac taken directly from the 80's T.V. show, Knightrider. The car with similar race dynamics to the Eagle Mk 4, and will feature a glowing, red, LED set into its bonnet.
Steam Train N/A A huge locomotive that has been refitted with tank tracks. While its handling is poor and acceleration slow, the train can ultimately reach considerable speeds. It can sustain a lot of damage and is able to inflict a great deal more on other vehicles. The tank tracks give the train excellent road-holding abilities.
Parade Float N/A An enormous float that resembles a chicken. It is quite slow and has very little defensive/offensive ability. Feathers - rather than metal - fly off it when it is damaged. Clearly, this is not the vehicle you drive if you want to do well, and exists purely for its novelty value. (This could make a good 'bonus' car.)
A vehicle in the style of a Exon Oil Tanker N/A This large, articulated tanker carries an inexhaustible supply of oil which can be released onto the road. On the down side, the tanker is slow and extremely hard to corner.

APC

The APC concept from the Gamespot preview.

The APC is only seen in concept art form, being quite different from any Cop Car from the game.

Ice-cream Van

The Ice-cream Van is also mentioned in the June 2000 issue of the PC Zone magazine: "Haven't you always wanted to mow someone down in an ice cream van? The one in TDR 2000 is large, strong and durable, but more importantly it plays a jingle as it drives along."[6]

Unused levels

In races.txt, there are references to two cut levels. These have been commented out so the game doesn't load them, but unfortunately, their files are gone, so all that remains are these references in the races file.

Break Test

The very first race was meant to be called "Break Test", probably used to test some of the game's mechanics. This syntax is slightly different from the one used for the final levels.

RACE
  WORLD "Break Test"
  NAME "BreakTest"
  TRACK "BreakTest"
  DISPLAY_NAME "BreakTest (Testa)"
  DESCRIPTION "no comment"
 TIMER 2000.0 1600.0 1400.0
POWERUPS "btest.pup"
POWERUPS_SAVENAME "assets\tracks\breaktest\btest.pup"
DRONE_PATHS "Paths_testTest_Null.hie"
  MISSION_DESC "mscript.txt"
END

GyroBox

GyroBox was created later in development, as evidenced by the data values' syntax. It's a normal multiplayer stage that was left out for unknown reasons.

RACE
  TRACK "GyroBox"
  NAME "GyroBox"
TYPE 64 // Type of race
  TIMER 200.0 160.0 140.0 // Seconds
  POWERUPS "gyrobox_Race1.pup"
  POWERUPS_SAVENAME "assets\tracks\GyroBox\GyroBox_Race1.pup"
  RACE_ID 32
  RACE_DEPENDENCY 0
  MISSION 0
END

Other things

The fifth icon image in the Nosebleed Pack.
  • There is an option that likely disables the race position in the HUD. Such a concept is not found in the Carmageddon series.
    • There are also several options with unknown effects; some of them might be unused.
  • The Nosebleed Pack breaks the powerup icon file in ASSETS\Stuff\hud.pak into 5 files, in order to add the icons for the new powerups. The new images contain 16 powerups each, and the last image, the one with the Nosebleed Pack's icons, only uses 5 of them. The others have crude numbers drawn on them.
